Harry Potter

On Friday, we went to see Harry Potter number 7 part two on an IMAX in 3D with our friends.  We completed the "big" experience with a huge tub of popcorn and the most massive drink I have ever seen (I left the popcorn and drink home with Scott so I'm sure he'll have plenty of nourishment while I'm gone working on my Master's project this week).

Scott and I decided to watch all the previous movies in the two weeks leading up to this one, and I thoroughly enjoyed our extended marathon.  Scott kindly explained the details to me during those so I would understand the last one ("Wait, is that the same guy?  Why is he doing that?  Did I miss something there?"--he is very patient).

Basketball

So...apparently they're now calling Carmageddon "Carmaheaven," so there's not really much clout to be gained by being a survivor.  Actually, I left town to work on my thesis project Saturday afternoon, so I can't really claim I survived the whole thing anyway.

Traffic issues aside, I'd like to about my sporty husband.  Scott has played in a basketball league with some of his classmates every Thursday for the past few months, and he was pretty awesome.  I came to watch and cheer...and maybe sometimes I wrote thank you notes.

This is the team.  I'm not very good at taking action shots, so I won't include any of those.

The "cheerleaders," me and two classmates from dental school

Me with the MVP of the game

I'm kinda sad my Thursday night social life is gone.  It was the only night I could count on getting out of the apartment!

Carmageddon

No, I did not make that title up.  That is what I am going to live through (hopefully) this weekend.  Check it out here.  Basically, a major freeway that goes through LA is shutting down for roadwork the whole weekend.  It's been all over the news, billboards, commercials, everyday conversation, etc.  Seriously, it's a HUGE deal.  I think it's going to be like 10 bagillion times worse than Logan's main street.  And that's bad.

You Know You're in Calfornia When...

I love living in California.  But...there has definitely been a learning curve for me.

You know you're in California when...

1- Google Maps lists two "travel times"--one with traffic and one without (as if they need to list the one without traffic)
2- You have to wait in line for 15 or more minutes to fill up with gas
3- You wish the grocery store had lanes and traffic lights to help avoid "cart jams" and people "cutting you off"
4- You have the dilemma about whether to go to Sea World, Six Flags, or the beach on your day off
5- You've actually been to the beach enough times to know that some days have better waves than others
6- It's hot
7- Every storefront has an activist with some petition for you to sign--Californians are very passionate about their causes
8- You get on the freeway to go somewhere that's a mile away
9- There are three different freeways within a mile of your apartment
10- You have to plan the whole day to go to the DMV

One Month Anniversary

Yesterday was our one month anniversary!  Yep, we made it 30 days and we're still happily married!  (I definitely just used my knuckles to figure out if June had 30 or 31 days.)  We celebrated by having steak for dinner!  This was a big deal for us because cheap chicken is the only meat we typically eat, but we went big for the special day ;)

We used our fancy dishes for the first time.  I let Scott be the "special" one.

Best month ever!

4th of July

The Fourth was our very first official holiday husband and wife, and boy did we set a high standard for how the Petersons celebrate!  The day started out with the LaVerne parade that we heard about by eavesdropping on some people at the pool.  It was a pretty standard city parade, but we did get some candy out of it.  We played cards while waiting.

There was a "pre-parade" of a bunch of motorcycles carrying flags from all 50 states.  Maybe I'll practice holding a flag while riding on the back of Scott's motorcycle so we can be in it next year ;)

There were lots of bands on the back of big trucks.  It was kind of cool.  This is for my brother, the drummer :)

Later in the day, we had a BBQ with some friends and watched fireworks from a park.  Of course, we brought cards to play while waiting.

Happy Fourth!
